Carnaby, Camden and kroketten

It's weekend! It's Sunday today and I just woke up and now I am relaxing and writing this blogpost. Today I am going to go to the Hackney Carnival with Marcia.

This week started after I went to the comedyclub on sunday night so on Monday after dropping off the kids I was quite tired. I didn't really do anything on Monday and sometimes you just have to have days like that. I did (finally) put up my polaroid pictures on the wall. In the first week I put up a new york subway map with some pictures and cards around it and I finally found a good map of London that I wanted to use so now I have a London map on my wall with polaroid pictures around it. This is a really good tip for au pairs to make sure to pack some pictures before you go because it can really make your room feel personal. In the evening I skyped with Sofie (Dutch best friend) and she is going to visit me! She is going to visit me the first weekend in october (19 days), I can't wait!

Tuesday I went to Oxford and Carnaby street. I met up with a couple of Dutch au pairs (Lois, Kim and Maudi) and we had lunch at Paul's (sorry Ruben and Raya) and after that we went shopping a little bit.
London Fashion week is here so some shopping windows looked extra nice. After a little bit of shopping I went home to pick up the kids. On wednesday I was supposed to go to westfield with Dana but we decided to just meet up and walk the dog which was very nice. I had to babysit on tuesday and wednesday so I stayed home in the evenings. This week I had to walk the dog a couple of times extra because the dogwalker was on holidays but I have to say that I don't really mind walking the dog a couple of times extra because the weather outside is still good.

On wednesday I met up with Dana and we walked the dog together and on thursday I decided to go to the big Sainsbury's supermarket. I wanted to go to the home section but (just my luck) they were renovating until the next day. So after looking around and seeing all the weird puddings (malteser pudding anyone?) I went to Hackney Central. I went to a charity shop (which is basically a secondhand shop and the benefits go to charity) where I bought a topshop shirt). My last stop was primark where I bought marmite pyama pants. If you don't know what marmite is: a sandwich spread and either you love it or you hate it. I hate it but my host family loves it so I thought it was a funny souvenir. I walked the dog again and picked up the kids. In the evening I had "tea" (supper/dinner) with my hostparents and that was really nice. I normally eat with the kids because the parents eat a little bit later.
On friday I had to work in the morning (making lunch, taking the kids to school and walking the dog) after that I was free. I skyped my parents, took a long shower, cleaned my room, and in the evening I went to a Dutch pub called "the hems".
Yes, it was time for a kroket and a frikadel (me and Claudia both ordered something else so we could share, haha). I had a really good time in the pub and after that we walked around leicester square which is a lot of fun in the evenings. I took the bus at regent street so I also walked past picadilly which is so pretty in the evenings.
Yesterday in the morning I met up with a nanny who just moved here from Amsterdam. We walked around Broadway market and I bought some meringues and pear juice and we had coffee together. After that I finally met up with Salla, Denisa and Marcia again. We went to Camden together. I love looking around at Camden market although I know I am paying way too much for things that I could probably order online haha.

After a while I had to go home because I had to babysit for a family that lives in the street next to my hostfamily. When I got there the girl almost had to go to bed already but I really enjoy babysitting her because she is really chatty and nice. The parents came home around 12 and after that I went home and I went to sleep immediately. So tired!
I am now going to get ready to go to the carnival with Marcia. I really hope it's going to be good! Thanks for reading and lots of love from London (where you can take the jetpack to get home).
