You must be somewhere in London (+ I graduated!)

"You must be loving your life in the rain You must be somewhere in London. Walking Abbey Lane"
- England, the National

Okay, I have to be honest. The title has nothing to do with my past week but since I was listening to music and searching for a blog title I decided to go with this one, haha.

Since most of you know, I went to London last week. I went there to meet my host-family.
My flight was last wednesday and I was quite nervous... I actually had to run for my flight since the line at passport control was a bit long and we might have left a little bit too late, oops!
This was the first time for me that I was really going to fly alone apart from being with friends or my own parents, luckily flying is pretty easy. I arrived about 20 minutes early and I had to go from Stanstead airport to Bethnal Green with the bus. First stop was Stratford, which I would be seeing again on friday. After that we passed some other stops and I got kinda nervous because everyone got out of the bus at Liverpool Street, but the current au-pair who was picking me up from the station, told me that this should be okay and that my stop was the next stop.

I got out of the bus and luckily I immediately recognised her. From the station we walked to the house which is about a 15/20 minute walk (with suitcase, haha). She showed me around the house and she made me tea and lunch which was very nice of her. The dad was working from home that day/week so I also got to meet him which was also very nice. They  have a really cute dog called Marmite and I think we took her for a walk after lunch, although I don't really remember. They almost live next to Victoria park, and that is also the park where I will be walking around with Marmite in the future.

In the afternoon it was time to pick up the kids. I was really tired from the flight and kinda nervous but I think the first meeting went pretty well! The girl immediately showed me all her friends and I also got to talk to the boy. He is more quiet but they are both really nice so that was good.
When we got home the kids had to do some homework and they wanted to show me lots of things like "Marmite" a really salty product that they like to put on their bread.

After the children went to bed I had diner with the parents. This way I could get to know them a little bit better. I felt really comfortable and we talked a lot about London and what the city has to offer. On thursday the current au-pair showed me the Hackney area. She showed me the post office, the cinema, supermarkets and lots of other things like the London Fields park. I even thought the post office was nice because I agreed on being penpals with Fleur, one of my friends.

In the afternoon we wanted to watch a movie but this was quite difficult because Netflix stopped working (oh... first world problems). So instead we watched some tv and I talked to some friends at home.
In the afternoon we had to pick up the kids again and one of them had a club in the evening. I had diner with the current au-pair and one of her friends that lives very near to the house. We went to Wetherspoons which is a really cheap and nice pub where they also have good food. It was a load of fun to see all the drunk people while we were  having diner. Unfortunately I still felt a bit sick so we didn't stay until very late.

On friday it was time to leave to my hotel as Sofie was arriving that day. I got a really good impression of the kids and the family and I think I made a really good choice going there.
I am going to leave it here since this is already a quite long blogpost but not until I say this:

I GRADUATED!

Until next time, haha!
